The following is our privacy notice, where we explain our commitment to you in detail and how any of your personal data may be used. We may change this policy from time to time so we invite you to check for any updates which are listed at the end of the policy.

Cornerhouse Media Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office registration reference ZA003855, and is a controller for the personal data mentioned in this privacy notice.

Information we collect

There are two types of information that we may collect and process:

Information that you give us

This is the personal data that you choose to share with us when requesting a quote for a product on our website. This will be information about the product itself such as how long you would like it for and any personal details you provide such as your name, date of birth, address, email and phone number.

Other information that we may collect

When you visit our website we automatically collect information about your browser, type of device (eg phone, tablet, computer) and IP address.

We do not collect any personal information from children, or about children, nor do we collect sensitive or special category data.

How do we use your personal information?

Fulfilling your requests

Your personal information that you provide us is used to introduce you to an FCA authorised firm. Upon submitting your personal details you will immediately be provided with the name of the FCA authorised firm who is processing your quote request.

IT infrastructure

Your IP address and browser information are used to help keep our server secure and running normally.

Business infrastructure

Your personal data is used to help us audit and record the normal running of our business. This allows us to receive a small commission from companies we introduce you to and to prevent fraud.

Service improvement

We capture details of your visits to our site including the actual pages you visit, IP address and other details about your visit. We also capture information about your computer or device including, where available, your operating system and browser type. This is used to enable us to analyse behaviour and trends on our site. This is statistical data about our users' browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.

We then use this information to make improvements to our website and marketing.

Marketing

We use third-party advertising services who may use your IP address and websites you may have already visited to show you relevant advertisements across other third-party websites.

Legal basis for processing your data

Our lawful basis for processing is legitimate interests. It is in the legitimate interest of the user to be introduced to an FCA authorised firm in order to fulfil their request for a quote. This is balanced with our business grounds for facilitating this introduction. The user's rights are respected and upheld at all times.

It is also in our legitimate interest to process personal data to improve our services and maintain our website.

Who do we share your information with?

In order to fulfil your request we will share your data with one FCA authorised firm. You will immediately be provided with the name of the FCA authorised firm who is processing your quote request upon submitting your personal details. They will contact you by phone, email or SMS but only for the purpose of fulfilling this request. They will be acting in the capacity of a data controller and will have their own privacy policy that is GDPR compliant.

Your data may be shared with third-party companies who provide us with analytics tools so that we can look at statistical data to learn how to improve our website in the future.

In order to run our business and to keep our website running, your data may be shared with our service providers such as our hosting company, web development tools and backup services.

We use third-party advertising services who may use your IP address and websites you may have already visited to show you relevant advertisements across other third-party websites.

We are required to comply with certain legal and regulatory requirements and occasionally may be asked to provide certain information to regulators or law enforcement agencies. This processing is necessary with compliance for a legal obligation to which we are subjected to.

We work with Contact State

We work with Contact State in order that we can pass on your request to our partners correctly. Contact State provides lead validation services to us and our insurance provider partners and their intermediaries. Contact State receives ‘de-identified‘ data from us about your request - this means devoid of any contact information, or anything else identifying you as an individual person in the ‘real world‘. It uses that de-identified data to help confirm your request has been submitted by a ‘real‘ human and not a robot, or automated request generator. This is done by examining a ‘browser fingerprint‘ associated with your request -- it contains, for example, details of the model of device you are using, your Internet browser, and the region from which you submit your request. Contact State retains that de-identified data for its own purposes as ‘data controller‘ and uses it to help verify requests submitted through other websites.

If you do not want us to pass your de-identified data to Contact State, please contact us by emailing privacy@skipfast.co.uk

We also use Contact State to check some basic details in your submission (for example, the postcode), and to route your submission in its ‘raw‘ plain-text form to the insurance providers and intermediaries we work with. In doing this, Contact State acts as our ‘data processor‘ - it does not use the raw data for its own purposes.

You can find out more about how Contact State uses this data here -- Contact State Privacy Notice

How secure is your data and what steps do we take to keep you safe?

Your personal data's security is very important to us. Although transfer of data over the internet is never totally secure we take every precaution that we can to help protect your data.

Our security policies include but are not limited to using industry standard encryption known as HTTPS, secure internet servers with firewalls and minimal data retention. Our backups are passworded and encrypted.

When we transfer your data to a partner who will fulfil your quote request we will ensure that this data is encrypted and transferred in a secure way.

Sometimes your personal data may be transferred outside of the EEA (European Economic Area) but when this happens we will take necessary steps to ensure that your data is treated securely. We will use approved data transfer mechanisms such as the EU-US Privacy Shield.

We will continue to enhance our security as and when new technology becomes available.

Your personal data rights

Under data laws known as GDPR you are in control of your own personal data. Specifically you have the following rights:

  • Right to object: You have the right to object to our use of your personal data including where we may use it for legitimate interests. Cookies

Cookies are little text files that a website stores in a folder on your device (computer, laptop, mobile or tablet) when you visit it.

Cookies are often used to help a website ‘remember‘ that a user has been to the website before. They can also be used for necessary website functions such as remembering what is in a shopping basket so that it doesn't automatically empty every time you open a new page on a website. Without cookies like these, parts of a website would break.

We use analytics packages which use cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis.

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website.

To find out more about how we use cookies please see our Cookie Policy

Cookies and advertising

We advertise our site with third-party companies who use cookies to enable the advertising to function correctly. This means that you may see adverts relating to your interests or sites you have visited before, such as this website, on other websites across the Internet. These third-party cookies estimate what interests you and record which sites you have already visited.

We advertise with these companies because we believe that we will find the right people who want to get a quote from us.

Sometimes, you might visit our site and not get a quote from us. We want a second chance to help so we use a feature called ‘remarketing‘ to show ads to you later if you come to our site and don't receive a quote.

For more details on our advertising along with the specific companies we advertise with and their privacy policies, please see our Cookie Policy
